Orthopaedic Technologist
Casual, part-time position

If you’re a registered Orthopaedic Technologist with clinical experience, who enjoys working both within a multi-disciplinary team and with minimal supervision, Niagara Health has an exciting opportunity for you to consider.
Working on-call hours in an Ortho Clinic, as needed, you will be responsible for assessment, treatment and evaluation of patient care, along with performing all other relevant duties assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the high-volume, fast-paced unit.

While your home site is the Greater Niagara General Site, you must be willing to work at two or more of our sites.
To join our team as an Orthopaedic Technologist, you must be a flexible, self-directed professional whose knowledge base and skill set include:
  • Diploma in an Orthopaedic Program from a recognized College of Arts and Technology.
  • Current registration with the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists (CSOT).
  • Current BCLS training.
  • One (1) year in the past three (3) years of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Basic understanding of anatomical structures and their relationship with one another.
  • Ability to accurately describe orthopaedic conditions.
  • Ability to apply and remove all types of casts, splints and orthopaedic devices.
  • Working towards gaining certification by completing the written, oral and practical exam of the CSOT.
  • Ability to instruct patients in the care of casts and orthopaedic devices.
  • Understanding of theory and application of skin and skeletal traction.
  • Understanding of the proper application of aseptic technique in dressing change, pin and suture removal, and setting up surgical fields.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing quality customer service while dealing with the public (patients and families), as well as various medical and non-medical professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a large and diversified workload with often rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
  • Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to apply Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Flexibility, self-direction and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Availability for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays.
  • Ability to maintain consistent, regular attendance.
  • Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
