THE ORGANIZATION

Acclaim Health, a registered charity, is Halton’s most trusted home and community care provider and has been for over 90 years. The focus is caring and continual re-investment in programs that will help more people in the community with their physical and mental well-being through independent living, reduced social isolation, innovative dementia care, end of life care and bereavement support. 

 Services are provided throughout Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, Mississauga and Oakville and the head office is in Oakville. Last year, the team at Acclaim Health supported more than 28,000 people to improve their quality of life. The vision of Acclaim Health: Your Home. Our Community. Extraordinary Care, and the mission Providing Care and Support to Live Well At Home permeate the organization. Acclaim Health has been on an exciting journey of development, growth, and innovation, often in incredibly challenging times.  And successes have been supported through the steady leadership of an empathetic, high-integrity and supportive senior team who demonstrate tremendous passion for and commitment to the vision, mission, and values. The CEO has announced her plans to retire in the spring.

 THE ROLE AND OPPORTUNITY

This is a unique opportunity to step into a well-respected organization that provides a blend of health and home care services for the Halton community. Acclaim Health has established itself as the leader in programs and services focused on helping older adults and their caregivers to stay in their homes for as long as possible.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is the strategic and operational head of the organization and is responsible for all activities, services, financial affairs, risk management and results.

Acclaim Health has a collaborative, tenured senior leadership team and an enviable culture that has been a key to their high retention rates of staff and volunteers. This stability generates positive feedback from clients and their families which in turn, contributes to a deep and steady donor base.

With a staff of 600 and 400 volunteers, Acclaim Health is a key player in strategic discussions about the future of home care in Ontario together with the Ontario Health Teams and Ontario Health, including focus on digital transformation, and equitable wages for home care workers.

PRIORITIES

In assuming this executive leadership role, the new CEO will:

  • Collaborate with the Board, to maintain the leadership position in home care and community support services that Acclaim Health has earned, as a visible leader in the Ontario Health Teams (Burlington, Halton, and Mississauga) and with Ontario Health.
  • Establish credibility and long-term relationships with staff, volunteers, the Board, political and bureaucratic leaders, volunteers and of course, the clients and their families.
  • Demonstrate values of Connection, Excellence, Agility and incorporate innovation, person-centred care, empowered people, fiscal resiliency and driving system transformation.
  • Develop annual operating plans with clear structure and deliverables, performance indicators including financial metrics and sustainability through collaboration with the Board, the Team and the community and aligned to the Strategic Plan 2023-26.
  • Embrace new ideas in both content and approach to ensure that Acclaim Health keeps pace with community and funder expectations while maintaining the organization’s strengths.
  • Develop new, innovative partnerships to meet the increasingly complex needs of clients and the system.
  • Continue development and implementation of policies and processes that support a diverse, equitable and inclusive organization with a culture of belonging, engagement and collaboration.
  • Ensure regular communication with client families, donors, and the broader community to share the successes of the organization.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Progressive leadership and expertise in healthcare, home care and/or community support services, understanding of dementia and palliative care and services would be an asset.
  • Executive-level understanding of home care programs and community support services including government service contracts and related reporting.
  • Adept at advocating for programs and services with political stakeholders, and funders,
  • Demonstrated competencies in strategic planning and business/service development.
  • Outstanding organizational, leadership, interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in collaborative decision-making, problem-solving and mentoring others.  
  • Proven experience stewarding a large donor community.
  • "Big Picture" thinker experienced in collaborating with communities to mitigate risks and entrepreneurial mindset and experience leading transformational initiatives.
  • A combination of health-related and business post-secondary education is preferred, a graduate degree in business, health services administration or nursing would be ideal.

Acclaim Health provides nursing and personal support services under contract with Home and Community Care Support Services Mississauga Halton (MH) and Home and Community Care Support Services Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant (HNHB) in accordance with their programs and service guidelines. Funded in part by Ontario Health and the Government of Ontario.
