Forensic Mental Health Services are a foundational component of our Mental Health Care Program at St. Joseph's and is affiliated with the Lawson Health Research Institute, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the Western University Faculty of Health Sciences. The Program, located at the Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Services (St. Thomas, Ontario), serves individuals who experience mental health and addiction needs, who have come in contact with the criminal justice system as a result. Embedding the philosophy of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery in care, with an interdisciplinary team approach, ensures the delivery of care in partnership with patients and families. Services include 88 inpatient beds within a state of the art, purpose-built facility as well as an outreach team serving a broad region across Southwestern Ontario.
Reporting to the Vice-President, Patient Care & Quality, the Director of Forensic Mental Health Services, in partnership with the Forensic Medical Director, will be responsible for the strategic oversight and continued development of the Forensic program that encompasses a full range of services including liaison and advocacy with the judicial system, inpatient and outpatient care for individuals who are referred for assessment under court order and detained under a disposition of the Ontario Review Board. The Director has key accountability for the operations of the stand-alone Southwest Center for Forensic Health Services site. As well, the Director collaborates with the Ontario Forensic Directors' Group which sets provincial direction and alignment across all regions. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional skills in strategic planning, change management and program development. The ability to foster strong community partnerships and collaborate with key stakeholders to foster service delivery, clinical and systemic capacity building, education and research activities is required. They are a leader who can collaboratively build a vision and deliver on system integration and leadership across multiple sectors and funding sources.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the mental health and addiction system and, in particular, the Ontario Forensic Mental Health system. This knowledge should include a strong awareness of drivers such as quality-based care standards, leading evidence-informed practices and emerging innovations in the field of Forensic Mental Health. This role has a strong focus on delivering outcomes that enhance safe, high quality patient care in partnership with patients and caregivers, at both the local and regional and provincial level. Further, the successful applicant will demonstrate proven capacity in coaching and developing others, verbal and written communication, responsible fiscal and human resource planning and the use of evidenced based decision making.
They will have achieved, at minimum, a Master's Degree in a health-related field and are a regulated health care professional in good standing. Also being a Certified Health Executive (CHE) with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) would be a strong asset. A minimum of 5 years progressive health leadership experience is required (with specific experience in forensics and/or hospital and community-based Mental Health Care a preferred asset). Proven experience in leading and facilitating transformational quality and safety change in health services, through cross-functional internal and external environments, and in collaboration with system partners, patients & families is required. Experience in program development, implementation, planning, organizational change, and the development of strategic plans and proposals is also required.
The successful applicant will possess Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA, ability and commitment to act as a supervisor under OHSA.
• Proficiency in French would be an asset
