Job Description

Oak Valley Health is seeking an exceptional physician executive to serve as its next Chief of Staff - an influential enterprise leadership role at a defining moment for the organization and the communities it serves.

Serving more than 490,000 patients annually, Oak Valley Health is one of Ontario’s leading community healthcare organizations, providing hospital-based care through Markham Stouffville Hospital, Uxbridge Hospital and the Reactivation Care Centre, while also supporting home care and primary care services across the communities it serves. Guided by its 2024–2029 Strategic Plan, Integrated Care for Healthier Communities, the organization is advancing an ambitious agenda focused on delivering an extraordinary patient experience, strengthening integrated care, investing in its people, and expanding its academic, digital and clinical capabilities. This work includes the redevelopment of Uxbridge Hospital, the continued evolution of integrated models of care, and the expansion of services to meet the needs of some of Canada’s fastest-growing and most culturally diverse communities.

Reporting to the Board of Directors and working in close partnership with the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Chief of Staff is Oak Valley Health’s senior physician leader and a key member of the Senior Leadership Team. The Chief of Staff will bring a strong physician voice to enterprise decision-making and help shape the organization’s clinical strategy, culture and performance.

As Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee, the Chief of Staff will provide strategic leadership to Oak Valley Health’s medical, dental, midwifery and extended class nursing staff. They will strengthen physician engagement and accountability, develop physician leadership capacity, and champion the highest standards of quality, patient safety and professional practice. Working across clinical, administrative and governance boundaries, the Chief of Staff will build alignment around complex decisions and help translate Oak Valley Health’s strategy into better outcomes for patients and communities.

This is an opportunity for an accomplished physician leader to have meaningful influence across a growing health system - helping to define how care is delivered today while building the clinical leadership, partnerships and capabilities Oak Valley Health will need for the future.

The successful candidate will be a highly credible, collaborative and politically astute physician leader who can build trust, lead through influence and navigate complexity. They will bring progressive physician leadership experience, a strong record of advancing quality and patient safety, and demonstrated success engaging physicians, developing clinical leaders and addressing performance and accountability with sound judgment.

Candidates must hold an MD and certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada. They will have at least 10 years of clinical practice experience and five years of progressively senior physician leadership experience. The successful candidate must have an existing clinical practice at Oak Valley Health or be able to establish one.
